Redstart was founded by Virginia Barlow in 1992, when she purchased a small forestry business where she had worked. The addition of Markus Bradley as a partner in 1998 allowed Redstart at take on additional forestry clients; much of this growth occurred in Washington County, Vermont, where Markus was quite familiar with the land and the people. In 2003, Ben Machin joined Ginny and Markus and was made a partner. Soon after Ben joined, Redstart began exploring other areas of interest, including public agency consulting, public engagement, land conservation and
community organizing, geographic information system and global positioning systems (GIS/GPS), management of non-native invasive species, forest health protection, botanical inventories, natural community mapping, stream assessments, and green certification of forest products. In 2006, Redstart added Dan (Rudi) Ruddell, who has worked closely on forest inventories, invasive species planning and control, and stream assessments. In 2007 Mike Scott, who focuses on forest management and assists with invasive species control and other projects, joined us.
